You have a problem. Not a real problem—very pleasant as problems go, but still a sort of problem.
You can't stop yourself from buying books, even if there's a stack of at least ten books on your bedside table that you haven't started reading and another stack you haven't finished reading, and you know full well that this new book you're itching to buy is going to end up on those stacks. You have an entire catalogue of rationalizations to justify buying another book that you don't have time to read. "I'm saving it for my retirement" (Tolstoy or Proust). "If I don't buy it now, it might not be here when I come back." "This is the last one, I swear. I won't buy another book until I finish my backlog." "True, I've sworn to finish my backlog, but it would be more realistic to maintain the backlog at a constant number. Every time I finish a book, I can buy a new one." "Dammit, I deserve to treat myself to a book." "I've been looking for this book forever and I can't insult the cosmos by not getting it." "This could be the book that will change my life/ alter my world-view/ inspire me to write my own great literature." And so on. Two days later you're sitting at home, surrounded by your unread books and you cry, "I have nothing to read!"
Know that you are not alone. There are others like yourself, enslaved by their lust for books. (Never mind their taste in reading matter, never mind if they think The Da Vinci Code is the greatest book ever written--hell, at least they read books. Let's dwell on what you have in common.) Compared to most addictions, this one is healthy (unless you run up huge debts or commit felonies to acquire the books). There is one question: Do you buy the books out of a pure love of books, or is it just avarice? To put it another way: Is it really reading you love--or shopping?

Stephen King says Stephenie Meyer Sucks

Stephen vs. Stephenie, the fight is onnnnn! :) Guess whose side I'm on? I just read this in yahoo mail and I had to IMMEDIATELY blog about it out of pure joy that all the faults I found wasn't just in my head. Somebody else who has more authority to speak about it, agrees. Meyer sucks. She just purely does. She was saved by finding a really great story, one she didn't do much justice, but girls will read anything with a hot dude in it. We are not all Stephen King fans, but I respect this dude (botoxed face and all) coz he writes. And even if his stories are creepy, he writes them well. I don't always like what he writes about (i.e. What's up with that The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, huh?), but at least he tells it well. And for those who say, well, Meyer's an amateur, get this: writing Twilight makes her an amateur. Did we see improvement in the next books though? At all? No. It even got worse. One word: Renesmee. Eating Pizza in Pisa and other Tuscan Food Adventures

  This is not a blog post. It’s a love story. It was late afternoon when we stepped outside of Pisa Centrale, the clacking of my son’s stroller on the cobblestone streets echoing down the lane. We just came from Florence for the day, we had no luggage, and we also had no taxi to take back to our hotel. It had been a long day. We must have walked a dozen miles in the last 7 hours exploring every Florentine nook and cranny we happened to come by. I was at the end of my short string, and my husband was at the end of his long one. Our toddler was quiet in his stroller, obviously just as exhausted as his parents even if he hadn’t left his stroller for more than 10 minutes each time. One wrong move, we would’ve exploded. While waiting for the taxi in silence, I had been staring at a building unseeingly for the last 5 minutes. Then I realized, the light looked yellow.
